Waubaushene Beaches Provincial Park
Tucked away near the village of Waubaushene on the shores of Georgian Bay, Waubaushene Beaches Provincial Park preserves a remarkable record of the last Ice Age. This 34-hectare nature reserve protects a series of ancient shorelines left behind as glacial Lake Algonquin retreated thousands of years ago — terraces, bluffs, and beaches now cloaked in cedar woodlands, meadows, and thickets. A quiet, undeveloped spot for nature lovers and the geologically curious.
Big Chute Marine Railway (Lock 45)
One of the most remarkable feats of engineering on the Trent-Severn Waterway, the Big Chute Marine Railway is the only working marine railway of its kind in North America. Instead of a traditional lock, boats ride in giant cradles up and over a railway that carries them across a 58-foot change in elevation between the upper and lower stretches of the Severn River. Watch this one-of-a-kind ‘boat roller coaster’ in action, or take in the views from the surrounding parkland — a must-see stop operated by Parks Canada.
The Real Muskoka Adventure
Once the bustling Great Lakes gateway of the Canadian Pacific Railway, Port McNicoll is a historic harbour village on the shores of Georgian Bay. Founded in 1909 as the CPR’s steamship terminus, this was the port where transcontinental rail met the great passenger liners that carried travellers and western grain across the lakes. Today it’s a scenic waterfront community where you can soak up the maritime heritage, enjoy the views over Hogg’s Bay, and discover the real gateway to Muskoka and Georgian Bay country
